Interesting quips..

The other day…  this happened.

Amma had taken Adi to a shop to buy some stuff for his school..

He was gazing at a car..

Adi: Ammamma, will you get this car for Adi?

Amma was so taken in by the sentence that she immediately got him the car..

Another one

Yesterday, we were getting ready to go to a party and I was multitasking, trying to finish off some work. Then comes his order…

Adi: kukeelee (Quickly) off laptop.. Now going to party by car.

Another funny one..

Amma: Adi you are going to party. You are so lucky
Adi: Luckidi kee ghaateee ..
J
------------------------------------------------------------

This has become common place now.

Every morning after getting up from bed, he waits for me to wake up (wakes me up if I don’t get up within his time frame), and then looks into my eyes and tells me with a smirk..

Adi: Tushara is your amma and my pondatee..

-----------------------------------------------------------------

This is a case of chotoo singh getting angry with me.. J

Yday.. for the first time.. chotoo got angry with me.. I was walking past.. and he was on his fours trying something.. and in the motion.. he slipped and fell

Adi:”Accha.. Why push Adi?”… with a very serious expression.. he literally yelled..
J..

I hugged him and kissed him and he started smiling..

Don't disturb me!!!

He is sitting on his throne, playing with the taps & the hand shower. I pass by asking him to “mukkuuuu”..

He looks up at me in all seriousness and says:

Adi: Accha, Adi doing appeee. Don’t disturb.

Amma: Adi, tell me a word that starts with D

Adi: Deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee…..

Amma: Adi, D says duh…

Adi: duh

Amma: Tell me a word that with duh

Adi: duh

Amma: bow!bow!

Adi: Dog!! Duh Dog!!

Amma: very good Adi!...another word…quack quack..

Adi: duck!! Kick kick (mimicking a duck quacking)..duh duck!

Amma: very nice adi…now another…and amma waves her hand and makes a few dance moves

Adi: My God! Dance! Duh-dance!..My God! Amma dancing!!!

Amma: <rolling on the floor laughing hearing the expression>

Adi: My God! My God!....

:D

Then conversation with me

Adi: Amma going big school?

Adi: Amma dancing in big school?

I was confused till Tushara explained what happened before

Amma no eat

This was a very funny bit that played out last night.

As usual, after his dinner, Adi began to crib to Tushara.

Adi: Amma no eat.. Amma no eat..

This kind of irritates everyone as he doesn’t permit her to eat after that.

Well, yesterday what happened was:

Adi: Amma no eat.. Amma no eat..

Me: Adi.. if you are going to keep saying this, I will take you to the shower

Adi: Oh.. amma no eat.. amma no eat (this time looking at me through the corner of his eyes)

Me: (I get up; wash my hands; pick him up and take him towards the bathroom)

Adi: Hey.. eeey… aaiiyy.. Accha.. No..

Me: Will you say Amma no eat?

Adi: No

Me: You say again, and I will definitely take you to the shower. (After this I put him back on the dining chair)

Adi: (This time.. he is tapping Tushara.. and making actions.. to say Amma no eat.. J . We all burst out laughing)

After sometime, he gets down below the table and taps Tushara and tells this slowly thinking that I can’t hear..

Well.. not bad huh.. to think that this chap had re-interpreted my threat to pass on the same message in different ways.

Don't worry

He is using a lot of new words nowadays..

Yday.. he was sitting in the drawing room, when amma had to rush to the bedroom to pick up the clothes from the clothesline due to rains. So, she yelled from the bedroom asking him to come to the bedroom..

His reply:

Adi – “Don’t worry, I am coming”

well.. - Its ok

Another one..

Normally.. Tushara makes him sit on the Commode for his morning you know what..

Yday.. he calls me:

Adi: Accha….. Acchaa…..

Me: entha mone..

Adi: Accha.. bum tight

Me: What????????? ( I go to the loo)

Adi: He points behind and says Bum tight..

Me: I lift him again and make him sit.. I ask – “Bum ok now?”

Adi: Its ok..

Fast forward to today morning..

Tushara was making him sit again. I told her.. just ensure his bum is not tight.. J))))))… Hearing this.. the chap replies.. “Its ok” The tone is as if.. he is some big chap..

Mall - funny incident

Chotoo, Tush & I had been to Oberoi mall 2 weeks back to purchase some trousers. I was walking in and out of the changing rooms trying trousers. On one occasion, I had gone back to get a bigger size and returned to find Tushara deeply engrossed in a novel and chotoo singh missing. They were sitting on a few chairs beside the changing rooms. I look around to see chotoo singh on his hands and knees.. bending down and looking under a changing room door.. (there is about a foot gap at the bottom of the door)… peeping into someone changing.

Imagine our condition.. we had to delicately drag him out of there without the person inside knowing.. J

We laugh our heads out whenever we think of that incident..

Negotiation with the teacher

The teacher narrated this incident when pappa went to pick up Adi after his school.

The teacher was asking the children to write and as usual our hero was not showing any interest.

Teacher: Adi, please write 4

Adi: Car?

The reference is that he is asking the teacher if she will permit him to drive the car in the playground if he writes 4. She was taken aback. Just a few days back.. a different incident had occurred when the teacher had blackmailed Adi into writing. Today, the champ was paying back in the same coin.

The other incident:

Teacher: Adi, please write 2

Adi: No (not bothering to look at the teacher and minding his own business)

Teacher: If you write 2, I will permit you to drive the car. If you don’t .. No Car.. No Petrol Pump

Adi: (cornered for a change).. OK.. Adi write.. Adi drive car.. Adi put petol in car..

Teacher: Ok.. only if you write.

Adi: OK. . and he wrote.

10 o cock aaya

Off late.. chotoo singh has developed a habit of playing with building blocks in the morning.

He is normally awake around 430.. and then is in and out of sleep.

Today.. I open my eyes around 615 and I find two eyes staring at me.. waiting for me to open my eyes. Immediately he is like

Adi: Accha, finished sleeping?

Me: No Adi.. I want to sleep for 5 mins more

Adi: Accha.. 10 o cock aaya.

ME: aayee.. not aaya

Adi: Oh.. 10 o cock aaya.. now utho.. Adi mant to play with building blocks in dawing oom.

Me: Ok.. let us go

Adi: Accha sleep in dawing oom?

Me: No

Adi: Accha sit together with Adi?

New words – together & 10 o cock.. J

This is a wonderful way to wake up in the morning.. J

something interestin..

Happened today..

Everyday in the afternoon, when pappa goes to pick up Adi, he runs around and plays and refuses to come home. He wants to continue playing in the play area in the school.

Yday, pappa got angry and was very stern on the way home. He refused to talk to him and in the evening, finally, Adi apologized.

Today in the morning , while he was leaving for school, much to our surprise.. he tells pappa with great seriousness ..

“innu.. adi vegum vegum varum.. ok..”

Driving Car or bus

This is the conversation that we had yday while driving from Oberoi Mall to our house.

Adi is a bit cranky, so, to engage him I am asking him this set of questions:

Me: Adi want to drive car? Or bus? Or autorickshaw?

Adi: Adi drive bus.

Me: hmm.. Adi want to drive aeroplane? Or bus? Or train?

Adi: Adi drive bus

Me:.. hmm.. ok.. Adi want to drive Red Bus or A/C bus?

Adi: Adi drive A/C bus

Me: ok.. I will stop the car; you get down and start driving the a/c bus.

Adi: ok.. (then silence)

Me: I am going to take the car to the side of the road and you get down.. ok

Adi: No.. Accha drive bus.. Adi drive car.

Me: aaah.. no way.. you drive bus and I will drive car..

Adi: (…laughing now.. ).. Adi drive car.. accha drive bus..

Pappa tells us later, that Adi actually thought that I was going to stop the car. He, then, baulked at the suggestion.. J

Sheila has gone home

Adi's favorite bollywood number these days is Sheila Ki Jawani. Everytime we open the laptop, he has a request coming up..."Amma/Accha, Sheila paat please".His behaviour on these occassions makes me suspicious if he has got his hands on Calvin's duplicator. Today morning I was busy googling to send in my answers to the Livemint Buisness Quiz (who wouldnt want a 2K voucher for hidesign, tell me...), when the request came up... "Amma, please put Sheila paat" Wanting to get rid of him, I replied .."Sheila veetu poyee" (Sheila's left for home) Pat comes the reply..."OK".. :)..."Sheila gone home, dance home" Kids can be really innocent... :) P.S:- Adi's previous fav. was "Teri Ore"- another Kat number....at least he is consistent in his affections...:)

Amma is my preference

Another interesting conversation about why Amma is his top priority in life..

Scene is in the afternoon. I was at home nursing a bruised shoulder and was working from home. Had lunch and was attempting to put him to sleep. Adi was tickling me and generally having fun. I caught his hand and drew it over me and said:

Me: Adi, hug accha

Adi: No.. Adi hug only amma.

sigh!!. Waited another 5 mins (was playing with him in the meanwhile). Repeated the same question

Me: Adi, hug accha da

Adi: NOOOO… (a big no this time).. only amma hug …

Now you know whom he likes more.. :)

ammamma & adi

Interesting conversation:

Ammamma was using a book to convince adi to draw a line from one picture in a column to another picture in an adjacent column.

Ammamma: Adi, what is this picture in this column?

Adi: TV

Ammamma: Adi, where is TV in this column ( the adjacent column)?

Adi: Here.. (pointing to the TV in the adjacent column).

Now he looks up at ammamma and says:

Adi: No connect line draw

I then came back around 550.. and this chap tells me

Adi: "Accha.. Good Morning"

Me: Good Morning monu

Adi: Accha.. lay down

Me: what? (didn't understand then)

Adi: Accha.. lay down

Me: what?

Adi: Accha.. sleep (tapping the pillow next to him)..

I was bowled over..

Benefits of online booking

Accha sent a cake for Adi today. It got delivered around 1030. It is a pineapple cake with a cute card that says - Happy Birthday to Adi from Acchaccha & Acchi.

He was saying that there is this website where you can chat with the people who take the booking. He was assured by them that they will deliver it before 400PM.

Not bad huh..

He had similarly sent cakes for Adi's last bday & for Tush's bday. That was through a different website though.

He is a big believer in online booking.. :)

Its funny how he takes so easily to technology where as I am still struggling with the developments in the technology world. :)

Amazing

Something amazing happened today.

It is Adi's bday today. Accha called in the morning around 700PM to wish him. He was asleep (surprising !!). Accha normally heads to office around 720-730. Today he waited till 745 and called again. Chotoo was on his throne. Well, never happened that Accha delayed work to wish Ajitha or me.. well.. grandchildren do make a big change.. :)

Well.. he gracefully said "Thank YOu" when wished Happy bday..

I want to watch TV

During dinner, normally, all of us gather around the table and have it. At times, if there is a really interesting program then that particular person would watch TV.

There was the India-Aus warm-up world cup match going on yesterday and I was having pizza and watching it.

Adi dutifully sat on the table. He was quite perked up with the loud peals of laughter emanating from me. So, he tells Tush

Adi: Amma, Adi go there eat.. watch TV with accha eat..

Once Tush said ok… it was cute to watch him hold the plate carefully, come to me and trying to haul himself onto the bed with the plate in his hands.. :)

He is increasingly using conjunctions.. and prepositions.. nice..

Accha snores a lot

This incident happened on saturday. Given below are the details as described by Tush:

Adi gets up. I am in the loo. He tells Tush

Adi: Amma, Adi no sleep with Accha

Tush: Why mone?

Adi: Accha grrrrrrr sleep

:) .. my wife laughed her head out. After years of complaining about my snoring, she finally has one more person providing her company in her cribs.. :)

Make believe story

After a long vacation, a lot of us don't feel like going to office / school. Adi is no better. After a 2 week vacation, on monday when he woke up, the first thing he said was as follows:

Adi: Amma.. office close

Tush: No monu.. amma going to office..

Adi: huhhuhu (attempting to cry)

Tush: ok ok..

Adi: Amma office close. Adi home sit. Accha.. office going?

Me: Yes monu.

Adi. Amma office close. Adi home sit.

Then, started the regular drama, where after each activity like making him drink milk or making him shit or having bath or brushing his teeth or having breakfast, he would re-iterate at least 5 times that amma's office is closed and school no.

Around 815 he saw that Tushara was getting ready to office.

Adi: Adi home sit. Adi, pappa park going.

All of us, obviously are trying to entice him with facts that you would have Latisha / Vedika / Arihant in school and that he will go by bhaiyya car. Each of this was met by a firm "Adi home sit. Adi, pappa park going".

After his breakfast, we got him dressed. He kept telling "School no". I kept telling yes.. no school.

Now, waiting near the lift.

Tush: Adi, amma going to office

Adi: Bye. Adi home sit.

When he sees me putting on my sandals.. Adi: huhuh(trying to cry).

Me: Why are you crying? We are going down to say bye to Amma

Adi: haan.

In the lift,

Me: Adi, are you going to school?

Adi: No, Adi home sit. Adi, pappa park going.

We subsequently said bye to Tushara and are waiting on the porch for his car to come.

Adi: Adi no school. Bhaiyya car vavu. Adi home sit. Adi,pappa park going.

Me: That is  ok. Accha is going to school. Can you put me in bhaiiya car

Adi: (smile). haan. Accha go school. Adi home.

Me: how will you go home?

Adi: Lift

Me: Can you go on your own?

Adi: haan

Me: Ok, so will you put in me Bhaiyya car?

Adi: Haan. Accha go school. Adi home sit.

Finally, the car arrives and I push him into the car, much to his discomfort. He gives me a glowering look and then turns away refusing to say bye to me.

Interesting times in the morning. I wonder how did he ever imagine that I would go to school.

Trip - incident

Chotoo was at his usual disinterested best when it comes to studies.

Tush: Adi. .. A for?

Adi - Apple

Tush: B for ?

Adi - Ball

.

.

.

Tush: H for ?

Adi: Hat (well.. he is loosing interest rapidly now)

Tush: G for?

Adi - Gigloo

Tush: What??? No Adi.. I for Igloo.. what is G for?

Adi - Gigloo

Tush: No Adi.. H for?

Adi - Higloo

Tush.. Adi… H for Hat.. not Higloo. I for?

Adi - Igloo

Tush - Good. Very good boy. J for?

Adi - Jigloo..

Tush- Grr..

The learning session stopped right there.. and Adi was unconcerned with whatever was going on.. unmindful of the anger & frustration on Tush's face.

Mature outlook

Sometimes, I feel that he is far mature for his age. The way he looks up philosophically, the way he thinks deeply at times looking out of the window. Check this out.

Amma was stitching her saree. It was torn slightly.

Adi: Ammamma, saree keeree

Ammamma: Ade mone, saree keeree, ammamma stitch cheyuge anu. Adi vallidu aytu, jolee ku pogumbol, ammammaku medichu tharuo?

Adi: (thinking for sometime).. Adi jolee ammamma saree

Ammamma: Muthachannu ?

Adi: Pappa .. dress

Ammamma: ammaku?

Adi: hmm.. (thinking for sometime).. amma.. machine

Ammamma: Acchanu?

Adi: hmm… scooter.

One more snub

Something similar to the last post happened again.

The chap came to me last night around 945.

Adi: Accha.. all izz wei.. idu

I put the song on my mobile for him.

Adi: Papppa… come..

He and pappa begin to dance. He then looks at me..

Adi: Accha.. paper .. go..

(asking me to go read the paper)

Sigh!!

Crook ..

This is what happened today morning.

He was as usual in the loo singing away to glory. It was almost 15 mins in there. So, I asked him if he is done. He looks up at me and says:

Adi: Accha.. ironbox.. (and shows the action of ironing).

Well .. well.. he is already asking me to mind my business.. :)

Funny set of incidents.. :) - 14jan2011

1230PM

Looks like in the afternoon after chotoo singh came home from school, he was insisting on pappa driving our car. Pappa convinced him telling that I had taken the keys to office but not the car. (As if the chap believed it). He then asked amma (on intercom from the basement) to hide the key.

Fast forward to 430PM

Chotoo singh comes walking into the drawing room after a good sleep. Says "Goodmorning" to pappa & amma and then sees the keys at the key stand (Pappa had accidently placed the key back).

Adi: Key .. accha office?

Pappa: Monu, acchan sent the keys home by courier.

Pappa: I can't take you now. I am going to the market

Fast forward to 715PM (I reach home and step into the house)

Adi: Accha… car chavee.. key.. pappa market. Wait…

Adi: Accha.. car stat.. adi fol hans (fold hands)

Adi: Adi car ound (round.. showing actions)

he waits for sometime and then..

Adi: Accha.. come. car stat (start)

We walk towards the lift. The lift opens and pappa is standing there.

Adi: Pappaaa…. (then turns to me).. key tha. Pappa Adi car stat. Accha bye.. Accha go home

Fast forward to car:

Pappa opens the passenger door, our hero jumps in and folds his hands.

Adi: pappa .. come.

Pappa gets into the driver's seat

Adi: Pappa.. car stat

Pappa starts the car

Adi: Pappa.. car dive.

Pappa bursts out laughing and explains that he can't drive.. :).

He knows that he can manipulate pappa and hence wants the responsibilities passed onto pappa.. :). Finally, we agreed to take him to the shop. Pappa and me were discussing where to go and what to buy. Adi was a spectator as usual.. looking some place else.

Me: Adi.. where are we going?

Adi: Shop

Me: Which shop are we going?

Adi: DMAT (DMART)

Me. No.. say reliance

Adi: eliance.. lion

Me: What are we going to buy?

Adi: Azhee..(Ari - rice) (not bad.. chap was observant)

We then spent some time in front of reliance fresh and then headed home.. :).

Adi: Accha.. amma pickup.

Me: Amma is at home.

you should look at the happiness on his face on hearing that statement.. :)

14jan2011

This is the first time I have heard him say this.

Yday, I took the 615 bus and reached home around 715. Chotoo was thrilled to see me. We started talking and suddenly he remembered and said.. :)

Adi: Chanjee vedikku. Adee veenu. (Bum is paining. Adi fell down).

I had to control myself from laughing out loud, especially considering the seriousness with which he told me this.

Some diagols.. :)

Some other interesting dialogues.

I am sure this chap has learnt this from Tushara. One morning I was passing by when I heard this chap sitting on the bed, looking out of the window dreamily and saying

Adi: Amma home, Accha home.. Adi happy..

Ajitha initiated this. She taught Adi to say the below while in Pondicherry. Subsequently all of us have hijacked this statement to replace Ajitha with Accha, Acchaccha etc.

Adi: Ajitha is Adi's dahling

Tushara has given her personal twist

Adi: Amma is Adi's boss

Anemone - Anmol

Ammamma - Adi, what are the sea creatures?

Adi - Octopus, Sta Fish, she hose, Dolphin, Anmol… ( he he he he)

Amma & I thought that this chap was making fun of Anmol.

Well, Tushara suggested today. That he was perhaps mistaking Anemone to Anmol.. :).. So that was the catch.

12 Jan 2011

Chotoo was insistent on not going to school today. Had us both worried. Looks like they are insisting that he write in school. There was this incident yesterday -

Me - Adi, did you have tiffin?

Adi - illye

Me - why?

Adi - padi. Adi study.

Me - oh.. enda padichhe?

Adi - Standing line, sleeping line (showing actions). L

Me - H padicho?

Adi - hmm

Me - E padicho?

Adi - hmmm

Me - F padicho?

Adi - illye

Looks like the teacher insisted that he have his tiffin only after he finishes writing L, H & E.

Coming back to today, he used his typical delaying tactics of not wanting to drink milk and not wanting to do appi. (this was finally achieved by him listening to "All is Well". Should tell thanks to vinay meher for giving me that song). I ended up brushing his teeth much to his anger (when Tushara had already brushed his teeth in the morning). He started eating food around 819(my watch). Finished one dosa quickly. As usual was distracted seeing pics in the newspaper. Around 834, I glanced at my watch and this chap noticed. He immediately clamped him mouth shut refusing to eat more. Real crook. Started his natak of not wanting to go to school. We got him ready in a jiffy and were on our way down. He had reconciled to going to school and was (surprisingly) persistent on travelling in "Accha car" and not " Bhaiiya Car".

We landed on the ground floor and saw the sumo at a distance. Immediately, the dialog changed.

Adi- Accha, accha car no. bhaiyya car.

Accha - sherry, odu odu

Adi - Maasi.. Open.  (I put him in the car, he drags the bag from my shoulders).. Anmol.. bag.

Accha - Da.. anmol o.. Anmol bhaiiya para

Adi - Anmol bhaiyya… bag..

After a few seconds.. a haughty bye to me..

well.. that was in short the kolaahalam in the morning today.. :).

No Studying

Ammamma: Adi, let us study

Adi: No, Park

Ammamma: Ok. Let us go to the park. Let us take the books as well and study in the park

Adi: No park. Study home.
