Malpua

This time.. the incident is from Muthacchan.

We had been to Rajdhani on Sunday for lunch. This was more of a Diwali treat. The food was sumptuous as usual with our hero looking around and absorbing the going-ons in the background like a sponge.

After food, muthacchan comments:

M: The food is sweet here. Everything is sweet. The dal, the parota – biscuit parota. Too sweet for my taste. Sigh!!

The waiter comes around

Waiter: Madam (Tushara) .. would you like to have some malpua.

Tushara: Yes, please.

As the waiter is leaving, Pappa accosts the waiter..

M: Hello.. I want Malpua too..

Now.. this resulted in all of us bursting into peals of laughter.. with only M & Adi looking bemused.

The person who was cribbing about food being sweet, accosts the waiter and orders malpua..

Studies again

It is evening time. Our hero is sitting cross legged on the sofa lounging around.

Me: yeda.. you did no studying today at all. Did you not say in the morning that you will be studying today?

Adi: (No reply. A very dignified silence. Looking at TV with great somberness)

Me: Da cheka..  I am talking to you. When are you going to study?

Adi. (silence again)

Me: Adi…

Adi: eeiii.. (wagging his finger). Don’t disturb me.

Studies.. ??

Adi’s disdain for writing is quite well known. He tried all means to ward off the evil of writing. Recently:

Me: Adi, what is your plan today?

Adi: I? I study. I read. I write, then apply oil, have bath, have mamu and go to sleep.

ME: ok. Study.. hmm.. interesting. I don’t believe it.

Adi: (Cheeky smile)

I head out for some work:

Ammamma: Adi.. come let us do some studying

Adi: No.. not now. I study in the evening.

Adi walks away from the drawing room towards the bedroom. While, walking he mutters to himself

Adi: Ammamma say study in the morning, I say study evening.. ammamma say study in evening.. I say study morning.. he he he he he.. Crook.

Baby in accha tummy

An interesting conversation yday.

Tush & I went shopping for furniture yday evening. Chotoo was asleep so we did not wake him up. After he got up, he cried asking for amma.

Ammamma: Adi.. you can’t cry like this asking for amma everytime. When the baby is to be born, Amma will go to the hospital. Will you still cry like this then?

Chotoo: … silent for sometime. Engrossed in deep thought.

After awhile –

Chotoo – Ammamma tell doctor aunty to put baby in accha tummy. Adi stay with amma and accha go to hospital.

Now.. what do I say in the face of such loyalty?

About the baby

We are a bit apprehensive about how Adi is going to face the newborn. Some snippets of conversation

Adi: Ammaa.. chotta baby amma is some aunty. You are only my amma.. not chotta baby amma. Ok?

Tushara was knitting a sweater for Ajitha’s kid – Jayden

Adi: Amma who you making sweater for?

Tushara: I am making this sweater for Jayden baby.

Adi: ok

After a few days, Tushara is making another sweater

Adi: Amma you making sweater for chotta baby?

Tushara: No, I am making sweater for Jayden baby.

Adi: You making sweater for Jayden baby.. chotta baby.. you no make sweater for Adi?

Tushara: Illa mone.. after making this sweater, the next sweater is for you only.

Don't come back from office

Well.. the chap was highly irritated that I woke him up and dragged him forcibly from the bed to the bathroom and washed his face. I was applying oil after that when this happened:

Adi: Acchaaaa.. I don’t like you

Me: ok

Adi: I like only Amma

Me: Ok

Adi: Accha.. are you going office?

Me: yes

Adi: You go office.. don’t come back

Me: …?? Why?

Adi: I want to stay with amma at home. You go office and no come back.

Driving car

This happened last week. Tushara was highly irritated with his noises related to driving a car – noise connected to opening the door, locking it, putting the key in ; starting it etc.

Tushara: Adi.. enough of driving car. No more driving car understand?

Adi: hmm.. ok

Adi sat quietly for sometime. Tushara moved to the bedroom. After about 15 mins, the sounds start again.

Tushara: (yelling from the bedroom): Adi… I said no driving car.

However, there is no respite. I walk over to the drawing room to investigate.

Me: Adi, amma asked you not to drive car. She is going to get very angry. Why do you disobey.

Adi: I am not driving car. I am driving bus.

Well.. what do I say?

Me: Adi.. driving car and bus is the same. No more driving.

Adi: No response. Very quiet. Sitting quietly.

After about 10 mins – the sounds start again. I walk over again to investigate. The chap is sitting at the back of the sofa (not his usual position in the front).

Me: Adi.. amma told you not to drive.

Adi: I am not driving. Driver uncle is driving. I am sitting back. (pointing out his location).

Wrong things

One more

Ammamma is knitting a sweater

Adi  to Tushara: Amma, ammamma making sweater for me?

Tushara: No, ammamma is not making sweater for you. She is making sweater for another baby

Adi to Ammamma: Ammamma, are you making sweater for me?

Ammamma: Yes, darling, I am making a sweater for me.

Adi (visibly irritated) to Tushara: Why are you telling me wrong things?

Fire Stove

This week in Adi’s school, the topic of discussion is Rajiv Gandhi.

Me: Adi, did they talk about Rajiv Gandhi in school today?

Adi: Yes

Me: What did they say?

Adi: Father name.. Gandhi

Me: What Gandhi?

Adi: Fire Stove

Me:??? Well.. oh.. (Fire – Firoz; Our hero seems to have connected Firoz to Fire and Stove.. J )

Adi: Baby amma vere aunty?

Molu: No Adi.. I am baby’s amma..

Adi: Nooooooooo.. you only my amma. Baby amma vere aunty..

Now.. didn’t see the possessive streak in this chap before.

Knitting for me

Conversation today..

Adi: Amma, you are knitting for athai baby?

Molu: Yes Adi. I am knitting sweater for athai baby.

Adi: What about me? You are not knitting anything for me?

Anything but writing

When Adi got up today evening, we had decided discussed the plan for the rest of the evening and it was “WRITING” after swimming. He agreed reluctantly to it.

We went swimming and on the way back.. he showed sudden interest in going shopping with Muthacchan. Muthacchan was obviously very pleased. They went shopping, and then looks like our hero then wanted to go to the park.. and then stop at a bakery to have some water.. and then head to the basement car parking to inspect the car.. well well. By now, Muthacchan had understood that all this was just a mechanism to avoid WRITING.

Finally, the hero reaches home around 800 and yells loudly.. “Accha.. come.. let us go Vijaya Bank Layout Library”.. to see two stern expressions from his mom and his ammamma. Immediately.. “Adi is feeling tired. Adi want dinner. Adi going to sleep..”.. J

Well.. anything but writing. Finally, he did have his way. Today being our anniversary, Ammamma & Pappa had made lovely dinner. Lovely mutton + dal parathas + veg biriyani + apple kheer. Well, with rich food like his, his eyes were drooping by the time the dinner was over.. J

So.. finally.. we struck another deal.. “Adi.. we will do writing after getting up from sleep tomorrow..”  - Answer – “yeah yeah yeah”.. Well, tomorrow is another day.

Adi: (introspectively) Amma.. you are having baby in stomach?

Molu: Yes Adi… Baby is growing in my stomach

Adi: Tummy becoming big because of baby?

Molu: Yes Adi

Adi: Accha also having baby in stomach?

Molu: (Confused expression)

Adi: Because.. your tummy becoming big like accha tummy

2nd in command - scan

We went for the anamoly scan on Saturday. The little one was fast asleep when Tush’s scan was being done. The little one was covering its face with its hands. The doc couldn’t see the face and the heart. The doc asked her to take a nature break and walk around a bit. When the scan was done again, the little one was sleeping like accha.. on its back.. with its palms below its neck and leg stretched out.

Everything is fine.. thanks to god.

I want Karathe dress

Friday: Heard that after class, he went to the teacher and asked him ,” Adi want Karate dress”. Teacher showed him a dress in his bag and said that he would give him the dress if he did Karate properly.

Monday: After class, he went again to the teacher and asked him, “Please give me Karate dress”. Teacher gave the same reply. Our hero then went out and brought muthaccha and asked the teacher the same question.. much to muthaccha’s embarrassment. When this ruse didn’t work.. he tried the socially friendly route.. Adi: “Are you going home? Come let us walk together.. J”. I think before he broached the topic again, muthaccha diplomatically took him out of there.. J

Party Dress

This has happened over the last few days.

Last week, chotoo came back from school wearing the spare color (party dress) dress and not his uniform. From his conversations, we figured that he was in a hurry to go to the bathroom and went himself. As he had difficulty in removing the belt and the zip, the chap urinated a bit on his shorts and they had changed into the “party dress”. The chap was so pleased and happy at wearing the party dress and not the uniform.

Monday: He has asked teacher if he could change into party dress midway through the school session. Answer is .. No Way.

Today: (Tuesday): He asked the teacher again, if he could change into party dress midway through the school session.. Answer is No.. Well, our hero went to the bathroom and wet his shorts again (purposefully). Looks like he came gleaming that he needs to change into party dress again.. much to the consternation of the teacher. I got a call from the school explaining all this.. J. I was almost rolling over with laughter. Have to tell molu to make him understand not to do this. .:)

ende mone

Chotoo is full of distractions when he is studying. His mind is open to all things happening around him except for the book in front of him.. J. While amma was teaching him, the bell rang. Pappa opened the door and talked to someone and closed the door. Pat came the question:

Adi: aara adu mone?

Lazy People

Today’s interesting event: We got a mouthful from Chotoo singh early in the morning. He got up around 545 and was trying to wake up Tushara. Around 600am, out of sheer frustration, this is what happened..

Adi: Why are you both always sleeping?

Adi: You are both lazy

Molu: Nee poda.. (back to sleep)

Adi: Ok.. I am going. .(he jumps out of the bed; opens the door; bangs it shut.. and walks out of the bedroom.

Sangadam unde

Normally every morning, Adi tries to make Tushara do all the morning work for him like washing his face, making him have water, milk, applying oil, giving bath etc. If one of us try to say give milk, he would say.. “Amma wants to give me milk”.

Today, I forcibly gave him milk and yelled at him to go to the toilet, poor chap burst out crying.

Me: Adi, why are you crying?

Adi: mmmmm

Me: AAAdi!! Why are you crying?

Adi: sangadam unde

ME: What?

Adi: sangadam unde

Me: J.. (highly amused).. hugged this fellow and then took him for his morning ablutions.

First time, I am hearing Sangadam unde (I am feeling sad in Malayalam).

kaaka.. come..

This incident happened when we were in Nirman Galaxy. Should have occurred around 2010 after I came back from the US.

Chotoo has the habit of holding his chochoo when he is idle. I tell him that if he does it, I will call the kaaka and it will come down and pluck away his choochoo. The first time, he is quite intimidated by the concept and he immediately withdraws his hand. Well, as is the norm with him, after a few days he stopped believing in this and would laugh it off. One morning, around 1100, he is as usual holding his choochoo and looking out of the window. Oil has been applied on his body and we are letting it soak in him. I notice him and tell him the same thing.. that the kaaka would come and pluck away his choochoo. The fellow (maybe out of irritation) looks at me and then at the window and says loudly:

Adi: kaaka.. come .. kaakaa.. come and shoo (showing action of plucking away the choochoo). kaaka.. come .. kaakaa.. come and shoo (showing action of plucking away the choochoo).

Kaaka (sitting on the window sill): kaa.. kaa… kaa.. kaa..

I literally fell off the bed laughing my head off. One, it was funny to look at the astonishment on his face that the kaaka actually had come and two to see him sprinting out of the bedroom out of fright (mind you this was when he had just started walking steadily). After a few mins, I see him peeking into the bedroom wild eyed..

Me: Adi.. enthu pattee.. (trying to control the laughter rising again).

Adi: (In all seriousness).. kaaka.. come.. shooshoo.

To this day, I laugh whenever I remember that incident.

Morning ayeee?

330am:

Adi: accha.. accha.. accha..

Me: (sleepily).. hmm.. enda..

Adi: Morning ayeee??

Me: (looking at the mobile) ..grr… no.. go to sleep. If you don’t sleep, I will take you to swimming pool now..

530am:

Adi: Accha.. accha.. accha..

Me: (sleep deprived).. enda da..

Adi: what is the time?

Me: (jumping out of the bed to pick up the mobile).. 530.. gr.. Adi.. go to sleep.

Adi: (Our hero doesn’t “mant” to sleep).. amma.. amma.. Adi not want to sleep

Molu: Go to the drawing room and see if muthacchan & ammamma are there..

Adi happily jumps out of the bed and bounds of the bedroom.

I will not help in kitchen

Adi is normally very helpful.. even in the kitchen. When ammamma is cutting vegetables, he would run over and ask for some vegetables that he can cut. This leads to ammamma giving him some vegetables with a plastic knife and our hero would have fun cutting the veggies in whatever manner he feels like.

The other day, as usual, our hero runs into the kitchen demanding for veggies to cut. Ammamma gave him an onion with a plastic knife. After a few minutes, ammamma sees Adi running out of the kitchen with tears in his eyes. Chotoo went running to Tushara:

Adi: Amma.. my eyes paining. I not even watching too much TV. J

So.. the next day, when ammamma invited him over to cut veggies, our hero flatly refused.

Girls Talk Too Much

Adi & Tushara were coming up in the lift. There was another family in the lift with a young daughter who kept chattering away constantly.

Adi looks up at Tushara and says – “ Girls talk too much”.

Tushara looks around to see which hole to bury her head in.. J

Baby in my tummy

This is one of the most hilarious incidents. God has blessed us with a second one. Tushara is running her 3rd month. She is tired most of the times after office and goes to sleep after coming home. Chotoo gets panicky seeing this. So, one day I explained to him that amma is having a chotta baby in the stomach and so amma is tired and she is lying down.

After a few days, one morning, chotoo finished his milk in the morning and was lying down on the sofa the ways molu lies down in the evening:

Me: What happened? Why are you lying down?

Adi: I am veii veii (Very Very) Ti ed (Tired). I am having chotta baby in my tummy.

Well.. I could see Tushara turning crimson… J

Today is holiday

Accha related an incident.

Accha: Adi.. did you study today?

Adi: I study in the evening.

Accha.. ok

Then.. they talked for sometime about other things..

Accha: Adi.. so.. are you going to study in the evening?

Adi: No.. today is holiday..

Some excerpts

I spoke to Little Tushara..

Some excerpts:

Me: Adi.. is it raining there?

Adi: No..

Me: ok

Adi: Is Dissalling (Drizzling)

Adi:  Where are you now?

Me: In Office

Adi: Are you fee (free)?

------------------------------

There was a sudden sound of the chotoo girl crying from the other house

Adi: Ayyoooo… Amu is crying

Pappa: entha da?

Adi: pappa.. amu is crying

Pappa: Oh.

Me: Why is she crying?

Adi: She fall down.

Me: Did you play in the mini pool today?

Adi: No.. Leaf fall down. I play in the evening. I get simsuit(Swimsuit) from palakkad.

I am feeling sleepy..

Yday.. we kind of confused him.. and it was funny to watch his response..

We were sitting on the dining table.

Me: Adi.. do you want to come to Katpadi with Accha & Amma OR you want to go to Pallakad with Ammamma & pappa?

Adi: Katpadi with Accha & Amma

ME: ok.. Adi.. do you want to go to Pallakad with Ammamma & pappa OR you want to come  to Katpadi with Accha & Amma

Adi: hmm.. Katpadi with Accha & Amma

Pappa: Adi.. do you want to go to Katpadi with Pappa & Ammamma OR to palakkad with Accha & Amma?

Adi: oh.. I am feeling sleepy.. (and he just put his hands on the dining table .. his head on his hands.. and pretended to sleep)
